Baldock is a charming market town with access to the beautiful North Hertfordshire countryside. It was founded as a medieval market town in the 1140s and continues to host weekly markets to this day.
Baldock is located 33 miles north of London, less than one hour from the capital and 30 minutes from Cambridge by train, making it a popular commuter town.
Known for its bustling High Street, the town boasts an array of independent shops and restaurants, as well as more commercial chains and supermarkets. The town also has excellent school and leisure facilities and the popular Avenue Park is only a ten-minute walk from the town centre, where visitors can make the most of a play area, splash pad and multiple sports pitches.
Baldock town has a historic and varied architecture, with Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian buildings. One of the most iconic buildings is the Kayser Bondor hosiery factory, known for its elegant Art Deco facade, which is currently home to a very distinct looking Tesco. In addition to the numerous period buildings, you will also find some modern estates and new builds.
The town has benefited from a £3.2m investment scheme to improve parking and create more open space in the town centre. This has been a factor in Baldock’s increasing popularity, with house prices averaging £327,533 according to Rightmove. The majority of properties sold were terraced properties, at an average cost of £344,143. Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £365,409, with flats selling for £180,214.
